Turn off phone notifications today and focus!

You are in Vietnam. The best place on earth to be more mindful and focus while you are growing your business.

We think that if we reply to messages and emails quickly, we are more productive. I think the opposite.

In this article, you are invited to take part of a new experiment: You will turn off your phone notifications for a full day! And this is going to make you more productive.

3 reasons to turn off phone notifications today

1. Notifications are distractions. It litteraly means that… They might contain important news. But they are distracting you. All this time wasted “chatting”, waiting for the other to reply, etc. It’s time you don’t use for focusing.

2. re-focusing after being distracted once takes minutes if not hours. Have you ever opened your email, started to reply, and ended up still trying to reply to this same email 2-4 hours later ?

3. Notifications are not your boss. You should be choosing what to work on and when. You need all your limited time and energy dedicated to your “hell-yeah” things. I don’t think checking emails is making you necessarily happy. So this should be secondary and scheduled.

What is the real benefits?

Not only you will get your things done, but free the rest of your day for more important things.

In the end, the more focused you are the more productive you become. The more productive, the more value you have for your business and the more money you can make.

Remember, the only thing we have both in common you and me with someone like Elon Musk is our 24 hours in our day!

So if you feel overwhelmed, not satisfied with your days; GO AHEAD. Try for a day.

And let me know in the comments how it goes. And if you’re already doing it, share your best focus hacks to encourage others and help more people!

What if you could stop receive a single notification today?

Let’s turn off our phone notifications. Let’s try, just for a day…

Here is my guide and how I do it

1st STEP:
Schedule on your agenda 2 time slots to allow yourself to check your notifications (emails, messages, social medias).

I recommend:

  • 1 hour before lunch,
  • 1 hour before ending your work-day.

2nd STEP:
Put your phone and laptop in focus mode

  • For the phone, for the rest of the day, you have the choice:
    • Plane mode (simple)
    • Silent mode (more tricky: answer only your closest relationships or people you expect to call you)
  • For apps notifications:
    • Open your device Settings and disable the “badges” and the “sounds” (simple)
    • Open the messaging apps and spammy ones ⇒ Preferences ⇒ Notifications ⇒ turn off.
Pro tip: apply this also to your personal-time. What if you could enjoy a gym session without your phone or a whole weekend with your family… ?
